Starting a FLUVIALE along a line through Europe is initially like a dash. We gather together, think it through. It seems to us a useful concept of design that suggests a transformation of form. These chosen places lie on a geodetic line of Europe, and that is the artistic experimental aspect of it. The places are, from this perspective, fresh and unutilized, for they have – prima vista – no strategic or useful function, nor do they currently serve any European purpose in their exchange with each other. Concept & Coincidence is the artistic method. We will not only draw a dash but also actively carve a path through Europe and examine, illustrate, and publicly discuss the uncovered way. Members of the core team bring their existing networks to the locations, but there are also cities along this line that nobody knows. Thus, the FLUVIALE is a sculptural occasion for the future, whose processes we hereby establish and study them like found objects, relating to them, putting them into vibration. The FLUVIALE is also an analogy for what has come to be, which we find there: in nature as well as society, but also through language and memory, coming to awareness in places. The project views art and science, as well as everyday culture and social exchange, as shaping forces, and (as in geology) through active and passive influences, deposits above and below the earth or as systemic pressure distribution. Flowing, reciprocal processes are reflected in it, even a healing capacity, as it occurs in nature.
The FLUVIALE is not a competitive project. If an art project wants to move from thought to action, and do so together with other participants while moving through places in Europe, it results in a multifaceted form and yet a commonality. The participants have the function of skillfully placing the acupuncture needles.
