A journey along a space-time-line across Europe
T h e F L U V I A L E
Is a modularly structured, mobile art festival travelling along an axis through Europe – a contemporary form of a festival-like project aggregation that takes up and implements the new communication and living conditions, and translates observations, analysis and active processes of countermeasures into correspondingly modified forms of contemporary art production.
With the FLUVIALE we are setting out on a journey across the continent – on a north-south route, over 4,000 kilometres from Catania in Sicily to Skjervøy on the Barents Sea, in Norway – to develop artistic works and modules from on-site analyses that address the existential questions of the present and the development of the future in a public discourse.
> ALONG the LINE < refers to the straight geodesic focus line through Europe.
It is also the title of the first edition of the FLUVIALE from 2025 to 2028.
In addition to exhibitions, performances, media projects and public discourse events, the platform fosters project developments, stimulating transdisciplinary development processes between artists, as well as between artists and experts, to create open development spaces.
The latter is the main focus of FLUVIALE, which aims to create low-threshold access to art processes at a regional level. The complex contemporary processes, academic research findings and problem analyses are also intended to create access to contemporary art in its process form through the implementation of contemporary art projects that serve understanding, and to exchange and further develop the selected projects at an international level across borders.

TEMPORAL COLLABORATION
On the basis of translocal cooperation and cross-border collaboration, interactive art and discourse platforms will be realised, and new strategies developed that will be simulated in various art projects in order to publicly tackle the challenges of our present and future as a positive narrative. The project follows the routes and vectors of interests, developments, world perceptions, ideas and philosophies, knowledge, aspirations, migration, domination, fluctuation and evolution, revolution and current radical changes.
The line is the crystallisation thread of the FLUVIALE, along which the artistic processes and projects, research and discourse are manifested, converted into simulations and become visible.
MODULAR PROJECTS
The FLUVIALE has a modular structure and consists of various art projects that are developed and created by artists for specific points on the Line, including collaborative, interactive and process-orientated projects. Art-works, collaborative developing and performance projects, workshops and participatory processes are communicatively inscribed in the urban structures and embedded in a project discourse. All these forms can be shown and communicated like modules in the various contexts of presentation in exhibitions, screenings, performances or discussions.

ART – LABs
are a special module and format of the project as places of simulation, of the encounter of art with science and technical innovation. A space for testing and experimenting, for debate and discourse. The laboratories are always open to the public and are intended to make creative artistic and scientific research processes accessible, to be places of curiosity and discussion with the regional population and the international art public via online streams and public events.
MOTION – STRATEGIES
The movement that does not follow a vector from north to south or vice versa, as would correspond to the perspective world view of the 19th and large parts of the 20th century, but develops, according to a more contemporary understanding of movement in an oscillation, the amplitude of which increases progressively in time to finally measure the full length of the 4000 kilometres between Sicily and the northern islands of Norway.
Projects will be developed on several places in cooperation and will be shown and presented ALONG the LINE. As part of the festival, not only will events, presentations and exhibitions be able to take place at several locations, but the production of projects and artistic processes will also be made possible and produced via networked production and participating organisations. As the festival and the projects develop over time, increasingly more places will be staged or involved in active processes during the same period. At the same time, events and ART-LABs at various locations along the line will be connected via live streams and parallel events. Concerts or performances will take place simultaneously on two or more locations across Europe.
The discourse programme will also be linked online multiple times along the FLUVIALE cooperation line, and discussions and debates will be possible simultaneously and in interaction along the route.
