15 Years of Hydrogeological Research in Vienna

Geological science film 40 + 2 [=42]

Pulsationen: transdisciplinary project between science and art

Sabine Grupe

über mich [about me]

Hydrogeologist; studies in earth sciences and a Ph.D. in petrology from the University of Vienna; 2009 authorization for an Engineering Office of Geology.

My Motto: “im grunde ist immer geologie” [in essence / in the ground, it’s always geology]

unter wien [under Vienna] – research

Through the long-term research project “Angewandte Hydrogeologische Forschung – Stadtgebiet Wien” [Applied Hydrogeological Research – Vienna Urban Area], my team and I developed a unified hydrogeological planning framework for the Municipality of Vienna—including the use of a digital 3D stratigraphic model of the geological subsurface.

unter wegs [on/under the way] – dissemination

The results of the research project were presented annually at Vienna City Hall to experts and the interested public in a specially designed format titled “Wissen für Wien” [Knowledge for Vienna]. In addition to the scientific documentation, the final results are also available in an accessible summary: as a hydrogeological atlas “unterwegs.”

unter uns [among/under us] – society

In the project “unter uns,” I, as both a geoscientist and a local resident, take a look at the construction site right outside my front door in Vienna’s 7th district: the U2 South Extension, Neubaugasse Station in the Siebenstern area.
